Curriculum Information
At Roseacre Primary Academy we offer a curriculum which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children as they progress through school. The curriculum provides children of all abilities access to relevant, challenging and exciting learning experiences. We use the National Curriculum as a starting point and tailor planning to meet the interests and needs of the children. The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners. We have used research in metacognition to help provide a curriculum that teaches children how to be aware of what they are thinking about and choose a helpful thought process.
It captures children’s ability to:
- Analyse how they think
- Have high self-awareness and control of their thoughts
- Choose an appropriate and helpful strategy for the task at hand.
Metacognition and self-regulation approaches help our children think about their own learning more explicitly, by systematically teaching them specific strategies for planning, monitoring and evaluating their learning. Teaching is designed to give children a range of strategies to choose from and the skills to select the most suitable strategy for a given learning task.
What does your child learn at school each day?
Early Years Curriculum
When children start school, they join our reception classes. The learning that takes place in this year is planned and delivered using The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework that all early years settings must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well. Teachers use the areas of learning and development within the document to provide a variety of learning opportunities for each child. They inspire children to be curious, to learn to ask questions, try new challenges, be creative and use their imagination. This aim of this approach is that when children join Year 1 they have the skills, knowledge and understanding they need to successfully progress through school.
Curriculum for Years One to Six
We have long term plans for each year group which outline the starting points for planning. The long term plans use a jigsaw format and ensure coverage and progression throughout the school. Our Roseacre standards for years 1-6 are used to ensure that children are meeting expectations in their learning. Our curriculum is underpinned by our Roseacre Values: Respect, Excellence, Determination, Tolerance, Courage and Honesty.
